Losing Health Insurance Could Make You Eligible for New Coverage

Even though the next Open Enrollment Period to sign up for Health Insurance is several months way in the fall, you might still be eligible to choose a plan through the Washington Health Plan Finder if you have had or will soon have what’s known as a “life event.”

Certain life events allow you to qualify during what’s known as a Special Enrollment Period. These events can include getting married or moving to the State of Washington, two name a couple.

Another type of event that might allow you to qualify is losing your current healthcare coverage.

In general, you could qualify for special enrollment if you, or anyone in your household, lost qualifying health coverage in the past 60 days—or expects to lose coverage in the next 60 days.

Note: Keep in mind that you (or a family member) can’t qualify for lost coverage because you dropped it voluntarily, didn’t pay the premium, or failed to provide required documentation when the Washington Health Plan Finder asked for more information.
